5 Steps to running a successful Kickstarter campaign
Creating a Kickstarter campaign that exceeds it’s goals and ideally reaches it’s stretch goals and launches your product to a large group is every Kickstarter project managers goal. It’s a lot easier said than done though. Here are the 5 steps to running a successful Kickstarter campaign that if you follow them you’ll be ahead of 90% of the other projects on Kickstarter.
1. Start early and create a great pre-funding campaign
The key to getting a large amount of contributers in the first 72 hours of your Kickstarter launch is lining up all your contributers in your pre-launch. That’s right, if you’ve ever wondered how projects become so successful so quickly it’s because of a great pre-launch campaign. Take as long as you need to build the support that you need to have a great launch, make sure that you have at least 50% of your funding already in place before you ever launch and ideally much more. This is when you can take your time, try different things, different videos, different messages, design, whatever it takes until you have people going wow what a slick, cool product, I can’t wait to get mine!
2. Create a great video
A cool campaign without a great video is still going to be a blah project. Your video is what tells everyone who you are, this is where you get to be the best of you. Show people why they should invest in you and your product. Remember, people always invest in the person they believe in first and then the product. You want to show them why you’re the best person to do the project, why they can trust you to follow through and get the project completed. In the video you can show your passion and excitement for the project and why they should be too.
If your product is something that is best shown then use this time to show people a prototype and exactly how it looks, feels sounds. Show your audience the benefits of your product, why it’s going to change the world or make their life simpler, more streamlined, more fun. Your video should be high energy, full of excitement. Informative but not boring, short but just long enough to show them all the great benefits of the product and tell them about you. have fun with it and people will have fun watching.
3. Create a great website
Build yourself a great site that explains all the benefits of your product, tells the world all about you and shows the product in action. Have a very good FAQ section that answers the most common questions. Have your contact information on their so they can ask you questions directly and make sure that you have lots of call to action buttons to ensure that you collect their email information and they know exactly what your asking for and when. For them to contribute to your great new, wonderful product on x date.
4. Build great social media platforms
Choose 3 of the top social media platforms that you’re comfortable with and stick to them posting every day up to your launch and then continue posting like crazy all during your project while it’s live. Your pre-funding period is when you build up a large devoted audience that loves you and your product. Ask people for their opinion, get their feedback on your video, your promotional materials and your message. Do they understand exactly what your product is, what it’s benefits are, why they need to have it? Social media is a fantastic avenue to talk to people, get people to share your posts and retweet your message to all their followers. Your pre-funding social media strategy is all about building followers, engaging them and building a support team that will tell all tehir friends when you launch what a wonderful person you are and what a great product you have.
5.Build your personal network
Although everything you’ve done so far is on-line don’t forget your friends in the real world. These are your family and friends that have known you for years, have probably already heard about what you’re doing and already like you. Many people just want to know how to get involved and how to help you. Show them exactly what you need and when, You need them to spread the word to everyone they know ( give them the tools to do this), you need for them to contribute and you want them to do it on this certain date.
